Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Better Together, Better with YOU
Our mission to accept, respect, and include people of all abilities extends to the identities and backgrounds of every member of our community. AbilityPath disrupts all forms of discrimination, injustice, and oppression. We oppose violence and discrimination against all members in our community, particularly BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion. In solidarity with these core values, we recognize that we have work to do. We are creating a culture where community members can thrive as their authentic self. We are a stronger community when everyone is included.
AbilityPath recognizes the effects of bias and discrimination are felt throughout our community – from our partners, to staff, to the children, adults, and families we support. We aim to disrupt discrimination in all forms and recognize how our identities intersect. We acknowledge that our country is built on white supremacy and therefore operates in racist, homophobic, transphobic, and ableist systems. In our work in disrupting ableism, we realized that our lens needed to expand to better address the needs of our community.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practices begin with our mission. We are working towards full inclusion for all marginalized groups through:
- AbilityPath’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee and sub-committees partner with Human Resources to improve diversity and equity practices in our organization.
- We work with community partners to advance and broaden the vision of inclusion in the classroom, workplace, and community settings.
- Through diversity educators and with our team members we adopt best practices to disrupt racism and discrimination in all forms.
- Established Employee Resource Groups meet on a regular basis to support identity groups (LGBTQ+, Black/African American and more) in our organization to promote growth and self-reflection.
